Meet Peggy Farris – co-founder of what is today Atomic Fire Protection

Our Founding Story

Founded on July 1, 1975, Atomic Fire Protection began as a small Oklahoma start-up called Western Fire Equipment, purchased by Bill Farris from his uncle. With the acquisition of All State Fire Equipment and later Atomic Services, the company steadily expanded its reach, offering fire protection services to schools, hospitals, restaurants, drilling companies, and more.

Initially run by Bill, Peggy, and Robert Farris, the company operated out of a modest office with just a handful of client files. Through door-to-door sales efforts and responsive service, they grew the business significantly—especially after agreeing to service fire equipment for drilling rigs during the oil boom.

In 1983, the company settled into its current Oklahoma City location and eventually consolidated all branches for greater efficiency. With the purchase of Atomic Services, the company became a full-service fire safety provider, handling everything from extinguishers to alarm and sprinkler systems. Renamed Atomic Services, the business thrived under the leadership of Bill and Robert Farris, emphasizing innovation, quality service, and strong employee values. In 2025, the legacy continued as Nick Breeding acquired the company, marking 50 years of family ownership and dedication to fire safety across Oklahoma and beyond.

Our Journey Through the Decades

Explore the key milestones that have shaped Atomic Fire Protection into Oklahoma’s trusted fire safety partner.

1975

Purchased Western Fire Equipment

Bill Farris purchased the small start-up company Western Fire Equipment from his uncle, Neil Whitfield. Bill, Peggy, and Robert Farris drove their Suburban to Chickasha, Oklahoma, to pick up a small cardboard box containing twelve file folders, each marked for a specific month. Inside each folder were five to twelve invoices from retail businesses due for annual service on their fire extinguishers that month. Neil taught Bill and Robert how to fill a fire extinguisher before Robert drove them back to Oklahoma City.

Purchased All State Fire Equipment Company

Bill and Peggy bought All State Fire Equipment Company from Mr. and Mrs. Paxton, which they combined with Western Fire. All State Fire Equipment’s customers were schools, nursing homes, and businesses. Since All State Fire Equipment had more established customers, Bill used the All State Fire Equipment name for the merged company.

The first office was a supply closet with a phone line and a Criss Cross directory, located in an office building on Western Avenue in Oklahoma City. There, Robert called businesses down Main Street after school to set up service calls on their fire extinguishers – completed by Bill.

Fire Equipment Servicing for Oil Drilling

During Robert’s telephone canvassing calls, he contacted the corporate office of a drilling company, and they asked if the company could service drilling rigs on-site. Bill agreed and this began a new service area – making All State the Fire Equipment company servicing most of the drilling industry in Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle.

Bill opened branch offices in Minot, North Dakota; Arkansas; Texas; Ponca City; and Ardmore, as well as Oklahoma City. Then, he consolidated the businesses in Oklahoma City for efficiency.

Then, the oil boom busted and All State returned to installing kitchen vent hoods in schools and hospitals.
